While some would see the transition as a challenge, Wicky views it through a different lens. “I wouldn’t say that it’s a challenge. Instead, there are opportunities,” Wicky shared.
This mindset of seeing an obstacle as a chance for development captures Wicky’s perspective. He is eager to get started, fully aware that there are pieces missing from the puzzle.
“I was aware that there are a lot of new players coming in, and I was also aware that they may not be all there at the same time, and I'm fine with that. I'm very happy to start working with the team and the players we have. And that is my main focus.”
A large part of Wicky’s coaching philosophy lies in player development—an extension of his personal belief that players can grow and improve at any stage of their career. From Academy prospects to seasoned veterans, Wicky wants his team to value collective learning and growth.
“I think my coaching style with the players is demanding,” Wicky shared. “I have high standards in every single training session. Like I said in the beginning, what motivates me is to come in and get better every single day. And I expect this from the players as well. When we come together, when we're on the field, when we're on the training ground, we want to get better.”
The keyword Wicky used throughout the conversation was "we." When talking about the team culture and his goals, Wicky was always quick to include himself and the staff in that vision.
